Dr. Lewis-Heywood is great! I made an appointment online one evening and got a call back from her within 10 mins. I was able to go in the next day to get my tooth fixed. I'm so grateful for her quick response! Having tooth pain is no joke. I will be recommending her to everyone I know!

With all of the anxiety and fear I have had with my teeth, I don't think I could have found another person better to rid me of it like Barbara has. I'm extremely excited to see what she is able to do for me.

See How a Dental Crown Is Placed

What Exactly Is a Dental Crown?

A dental crown is a protective cap that totally covers the tooth. Ours are color-matched to your teeth so that they blend in seamlessly with your smile. Because they are metal-free, you won't have the telltale grey line that can appear when dental crowns are made with a metal substructure.

Dental crowns are a proven method for protecting teeth weakened by trauma or decay. Our dentist, Dr. Lewis-Heywood, specializes in beautiful metal-free crowns using porcelain. She favors porcelain for its cosmetic benefits, namely the ability to beautifully mimic the translucency of natural tooth enamel. Her technique allows the restoration to visually disappear among your natural teeth, protecting your tooth while restoring your smile.

While a crown is a preferred method to repair a damaged tooth, the crown needs a sufficient amount of healthy structure to support it. If your tooth is too damaged, then it may need to be extracted. In this situation, the dentist may recommend a dental implant to restore your smile.

A Closer Look What to Expect during Treatment

Our dentist will first meet with you to determine if a dental crown is the right solution for you and answer any of your questions. If you decide on a crown, she will schedule your next appointment. Typically, the procedure requires two appointments at our practice.

We provide metal-free ceramic crowns that are as beautiful as your natural teeth.

Preparing the Tooth

The damaged tooth will be treated to remove decay and infection. Some patients might need a root canal. The tooth will then be modified to make room for the crown.

Creating Impressions

Once the tooth is shaped, an impression of the area will be created so that your custom restoration can be designed for a comfortable fit.

Temporary Crown Placement

It typically takes about two weeks for the permanent crown to be created. Dr. Lewis-Heywood will provide a temporary crown to wear until your permanent one has been crafted. We will provide tips on how to care for your temporary crown.

Permanent Crown Placement

At your next appointment, the dentist will remove the temporary crown and check the fit of the permanent crown, adjusting it as needed to ensure a precise fit. Once you and the dentist agree the crown is just right, it will be cemented in place.
