Do you ever feel anxious when you come to Riverside Dental & Beauty Spa? If so, you most likely have dental anxiety. Many people suffer this issue, so you’re not alone. The good news is that there are things you can do to cope with the anxiety and feel more comfortable in the dental chair. Our dentist, Dr. Barbara Lewis-Heywood, is more than happy to tell you all about those things, which are:

-Speak up: Tell your dentist about your nerves and anxiety. If our dental team knows how you feel, we will take extra measures to make sure you are comfortable and cared for. We can even discuss a “stop” signal if that would help you feel better.

-Distract yourself: Bring music, a movie, or other types of entertainment to distract you during your appointment. This can take your mind off of the treatment and even help you relax a little bit.

-Use calming techniques: Try counting your breaths while you’re in the dental chair. You can also do a body scan where you concentrate on relaxing your muscles one body part at a time. All you need to do is start with your head and work your way down to your toes.
