This is the non-surgical and less expensive answer to sagging, wrinkled and crepey skin.

The PDO Thread Lift is a treatment which lifts and tighten sagging skin tissue.

The procedure uses threads made of Polydioxanone (PDO).

What are PDO Solid Threads?

These are Polydioxanone suture threads. They are introduced into the deeper layers of the skin.

Once in the skin the threads produce 3 effects.

  1. Instant Skin Lifting through mechanical effects
  2. Cellular renewal, through Collagen stimulation and neovascularrisation to improve skin texture, fine lines and elasticity.
  3. Skin Tightening by contracting fat tissue.

They are absorbable, after about 6 months the threads will disappear through simple hydrolysis (absorbed). The lifted facial contours will remain for another 6 to 18 months due to the cellular rejuvenation effects.

They stimulate your body to produce your own natural collagen through bio-stimulation resulting in naturally glowing and younger looking skin.   New blood vessels are produced as well.  The new blood vessels improve the skins microcirculation. In addition, the PDO threads cause the fat tissue to contract producing a skin tightening and slimming effect.

How is the Procedure Done?

PDO Thread Lift is a minimally invasive procedure. After numbing with topical anesthetic, the threads are inserted via a sharp or blunt needle (called cannulas) into the subdermal layer of the skin.  The procedures takes between 15 and 30 minutes and shows immediate results.

What Areas Can Be Treated with PDO Thread Lifts?

PDO threads are very versatile and can treat practically all areas of the face, such as

  • Under eye
  • Eyebrows
  • Crow’s feet (wrinkles around eye)
  • Cheeks
  • Nasolabial folds
  • Naso jugal folds
  • Wrinkles around mouth
  • Jaw line
  • Jowls
  • Neck

What Results Can Be Expected After Treatment?

The skin is immediately lifted after the procedure.  The threads provide support to lift the skin to its new position. It is possible to look tighter than the final result, but in about 1 week it will begin to look more natural.

The rejuvenative effects kicks in after about 1-2 months.  Better skin texture will be noticed, firmer and smoother skin.  Results however, will vary from person to person and with life style.

In about nine (9) months after the treatment, the threads would have dissolved but the results will still continue for many more months. It is recommended that the procedure is repeated in about 6-9 months after the first procedure, this way the result will be more longer lasting, lasting for up to three years.

Who is a Candidate for PDO Thread Lifts?

The procedure is suitable for anyone who wishes to improve their appearance.

It is an effective nonsurgical facelift treatment as long as you are willing to experience some injections and your desire is to attain an immediate lift of the facial contours without undergoing surgery. It is for both men and women who are unwilling to tolerate the downtime of facelift surgery.

How Safe is a PDO Thread Lift?

The treatment is surprisingly safe. Depending on the type of thread used and areas treated, bruising may or may not occur. There may be some mild swelling as well and soreness for about 3-5 days after. There is also a sensation of tightness for up to 2 weeks. Temporary mild dimpling of the skin can also occur but this resolves in a few days.

Other side effects, though rare, include infection, nerve damage, formation of nodules and damage to salivary ducts. Sometimes migration as well as extrusion of the threads may occur. In this case the threads will have to be removed but can be replaced at a later time.

Possible side effects:

  • Swelling
  • Soreness
  • Bruising
  • Temporary skin dimpling
  • Prolonged skin dimpling
  • Surface depression
  • Migration of threads
  • Extrusion of threads
  • Asymmetry
  • Prolonged pain
  • Nerve damage
  • Parotid duct fistula (damage to salivary gland)
  • Granuloma (hard nodule) infection

Before & After Thread Lift Procedures

Avoid:

  • Alcohol
  • Vitamin E supplements
  • Omega fish oils
  • Ginko
  • Going to the steam room or sauna
  • Engaging in heavy exercises such as high intensity interval training

After your procedure, avoid dental treatment in the two weeks following the procedure, and sleep on your back to allow the swelling to subside and to avoid putting pressure on the face. These could cause misalignment of the threads.
